About the Film

"A World Away"  is a haunting dystopian survival drama that captures the emotional aftermath of the world's quiet collapse.
After a global virus wipes out most of humanity, siblings Lena and Eli — along with a guarded drifter named Mason — seek shelter in an abandoned lakeside cabin in BigBear, California. Supplies are dwindling. Hope is scarce. And when Eli succumbs to the virus, Lena and Mason must confront not just grief, but the question of whether survival alone is enough. Told with intimate performances, naturalistic cinematography, and an atmosphere soaked in loneliness and quiet resilience, Pine Haven explores the fragile line between merely surviving... and truly living.

It’s a story about love, loss, and the stubborn hope that refuses to die — even when everything else does.

Audition Monologues

🎭 LENA'S AUDITION MONOLOGUE
(Survivor’s guilt, talking to an unseen person — maybe herself, maybe a memory.)
LENA:
(quiet, shaky at first)
You always said I'd be the strong one.
The one who kept going when everyone else gave up.
(beat)
But you never told me how heavy it would feel.
How some days, the weight of missing you would... would crush me before I even stood up.
(beat, voice cracks slightly)
I carry it anyway.
Every step. Every breath.
Because if I let it go... if I stop...
It’s like losing you all over again.
(beat)
So I hold on.
For you.
For me.
For the promise we made when the sky was still blue and the world still felt big.
(beat, whisper)
I’m still here.
I’m still fighting.
I swear.

🎭 ELI'S AUDITION MONOLOGUE
(Talking to the stars, wondering if anyone hears him. Part dreamer, part scared kid.)
ELI:
(staring upward, soft)
You think there’s still someone out there?
Like... somewhere past the clouds?
Maybe looking down?
(beat)
I like to think they’re watching.
That they see us — even now.
(beat, small laugh)
They probably think we’re crazy.
Sitting here... waiting... hoping for something better.
(beat)
But I can’t stop hoping.
It’s all I’ve got left.
Hope and this broken heart that somehow still beats.
(beat, voice fading softer)
If you're up there... if anyone’s up there...
Just know we tried.

We really did.

🎭 MASON'S AUDITION MONOLOGUE
(Confession — admitting regret and guilt to no one, maybe to a fire, maybe just the silence.)
MASON:
(quiet, bitter)
I said I'd protect them.
I meant it.
Every damn word.
(beat, cracks a small bitter smile)
Turns out words don’t mean much when the world falls apart.
(beat)
I wasn't fast enough.
Wasn't strong enough.
Wasn't enough.
(beat, softer)
And now all I can do is walk this broken road and pretend it still matters.
Pretend that maybe, somehow, there’s still a reason to keep moving.
(beat, whispered)

But most days...
Most days it’s just the guilt that carries me.
